CNTs may be added via laser cladding to the outside surfaces of metals similar to how tungsten carbide powder is added to metals via laser cladding to improve wear resistance ie for drive trains in Caterpillar trucks , the company Laserbond on the ASX I have a share holding in does this commercially its a form of tribology , there have been some experiments on CNTs and Laser cladding , don't know if any company actually does it commercially
