My expectation is that the focus of the discussion will be Syria.
As a prelude I came access some key points in the following article by Zaki Akil who is a YPG aligned Syrian Kurd.
Firstly, the article hasn't been polished and it doesn't appear to have been churned though any form of polished think mill. At one level it's grasping for answers and the English translation is basic. At another level it points to Putin throwing everyone and everything under the bus for sake of extending a delusion of global influence with Turkey's dictator as a partner. Akil criticises the US and others as a bystanders.
Will the current Russian strategy work? I don't believe it will because I don't believe that Russia or anyone else can hold onto ME proxy relationships for long. It just doesn't work. Proxies don't like being proxies and poorly structured dictatorships inevitably fall.
I could go a lot further but perhaps it's suffice to say that each Syrian group has its information sources in every other Syrian group and they are acutely aware of the blood soaked games being played by foreign entities. They are aware that their lives and those of their children are considered to be completely expendable.
Where will this all go? The arrival of additional French Special Forces is noted, and I expect that Macron will seek to turn Putin's strategy though one-to-one talks in coming months. Independent journalists in Manbij point to US troops bunking down in front lines opposing their Turkish counterparts. In some locations SDF/US forces, Turkish /FSA forces and Iranian/Russian/Assad forces are WITHIN 2 km of each other. It's been described as a powder keg waiting to blow.
All I can really hope for is for Macron to talk down the other belligerents. Will he get anywhere with Putin? You tell me ......
