Marketing of BrainChip's Development Kit's (BDK's).
Assume we're all in agreement that the burning issue for the Co right now is securing big revenue. So I presume there may be a few here who are surprised and perhaps concerned with the news that BRN doesn't intend to be involved in marketing commercial applications of the Akida FPGA. Did you miss this? Louis actually advised his plans for Akida FPGA in the Dec 17 webinar.
“As the FPGA comes up, it will spawn a development system, so people can actually start to develop on the Akida platform, on the FPGA and the development tools that go with it. Now some of that will be oriented towards industry, and some of it will be oriented towards data scientists. Now there's a great wave of data science that I wouldn't call it research, but it's in the academic realm, it's within research labs that are within large Fortune 500, 200 and 100 companies, but there's a lot of innovation that comes out of there. That development system will be early engagements for both real life industrial customers, as well as data scientists. I think that covers what I wanted to talk about with respect to Akida.”
So the burning issue right now is....since the Company plan's to use third parties such as Bager SC to market and sell BrainChip Development Kit's; will this impact negatively on potential sales momentum or perhaps even loss of some qualified leads during the rest of the year? Is this a high risk play?
Firstly we need to acknowledge that the Company at this point is in a state of transition. It's just taking it's firsts steps to position itself as a leading AI wholesaler of neuromorphic processing units; ie., firstly BDK's and later the Akida NsoC.
I think we should all be delighted with this news. It's far more than the benefits of savings in time and man hours in not having to wear the cost of additional BRN staff on software development for each application. The strategy with the BDK's in my book is brilliant!
Excuse the analogy...
First you sell the customer say a toy motorcycle to have a play with (apologies to Xilinx) and sure enough he is effectively cemented to a commitment to buy a full on Ducati Diavel. But not just 1 maybe 10 maybe a 1000.
Now is that cleaver or what?
