“Hi *****. Thanks for reading and commenting. Arrowhead had never stated that it intended to cure Hepatitis B with ARC-520 alone. They believed that ARC-520 could lower all the Hep B antigens and together with a NUC such as entecavir or tenofovir, they would the cornerstone to a potential cure. With that said, they were focused on lowering the HBsAg levels while NUCs were effective at lowering the HBV-DNA levels. When paired together, Arrowhead believed it could lower both targets and hopefully initiate an immune response, leading to a cure.
Arrowhead had shown that it was able to successfully lower the HBsAg levels but in most cases, they rebounded after therapy was completed. This shows that ARC-520 did not do anything for Hepatitis B patients other than temporarily lower serum HBsAg. With new data indicating a cure rate comparable to the standard of care, I question its clinical purpose and therapeutic effect. Thanks again for reading.”
