Drilling in the south over the last few days has encountered several good intersections including 5.45 metres of 0.06% eU3O8 for a grade thickness of 0.35 m% eU3O8 in drillhole CEY 207 (see attached downhole log) and 4.5 metres of 0.02% eU3O8 for a grade thickness of 0.1 m % eU3O8 in CEY 212 (see map for drillhole locations). As drilling progresses, the geological model emerging is one of a sinuous sand strandline system fringing a large lake area that lay to the east and north. It is a different style of uranium occurrence to the traditional palaeochannel, but the rollfront oxidation / reduction process still seems to be controlling the distribution of the uranium mineralisation. Such a strand line system can be laterally extensive, as the present drilling is indicating. Curnamona Energy is being guided by the historic mineral drilling databases across the area to determine the likely strandline positions, and has identified many kilometres of potential strike where it can test this concept. Commenting on the latest drilling results, Curnamona Energy Chairman, Dr Bob Johnson said “The field remains wide open, with untested extensions to the known uranium mineralization lying to the northeast and south of our current drilling. As the results from each drillhole are analysed, we are progressively developing a better understanding of the mineralisation controls that in turn helps our placement of future drillholes and our success rate.” Exploration is continuing both at Oban and also in the Yarramba Palaeochannel.
