I had a closer look at Dr Abeyratne's UQ profile and I noticed Appian Medical listed as one of his spin-off companies.
Appian Medical originally attempted to commercialise Abeyratne's Sleep Apnea algorithms but it looks like they ended up closing up shop.
Appian had completed only two clinical trials at the University of Queensland. The first one has 41 patients and the second had 86. Its easy to see why ResApp's OSA project has been bubbling along in the background as Dr Abeyratne figured out this project was going nowhere, developed new algorithms with ResApp and found it cost effective running clinical trials on over 700 patients.
Management of Appian were former ISN Directors and the company almost listed on the ASX a year before ResApp. They were looking to raise $8-$10M. Here is their investor deck with plenty of compelling statistics

Its almost as if ResApp has acquired another company with this new market and product which alone could be a unicorn.
