never give up hope . the shares probably become issuer sponsored that is issued directly by the company and you will be given a SRN, a security reference number beginning with I for individual, no longer CHESS . it is then that you give up hope. a recent example for me was CAG it was issuer sponsored for years , that is not listed on the ASX., now relisted. it all depends which alternative reality it lives in. I have heaps of these companies that I have no idea about . I suspect that some have long ago had a stake put through their hearts. it was much harder in those days to make money on small resource stocks. now with EV any mug can make money. how about PSP ,NYO, SXS, CCC, FXR, PAW,FAS,STI, IDC, AYN, BIV,MTD,SNR.to name a few ,goodies but oldies. someone will be able to explain it all.
