I do agree with you, contrarian views are important and groupthink is dangerous.
However, I (respectfully) disagree that such a notion is a myth. I think perhaps it is thrown around a bit much, and definitely I have seen people with legitimate concerns labelled a down-ramper.
There are those who post negatives based on either deliberate misinformation and perhaps in most cases just ignorance of the truth. This is dangerous to all, particularly when there are sensitive deals being worked out behind the scenes.
