What he was saying is that he's in for the long haul unless there's a takeover bid. That is not a strange thing to say. It would be unwise and certainly not in the interests of shareholders or anybody else for him to say that he would not be open to selling in the case of a T/O especially if the rest of the shareholders were interested in selling.
I think you might be overthinking this, although I don't know enough about the circumstances to know that a takeover is NOT on the horizon.
