Hi DV & Muzz, an interesting and somewhat unexpected timing for an announcement like this. At the risk of sounding negative in an otherwise very positive thread (some battery humour there for those paying attention), there's not enough information here to get me too charged up (Stop it!!).

Dolce, I agree the EV manufacturers have influence over the design of the batteries, but there are limitations and design considerations for the stability of the batteries (chemistry and physics at play that are too advanced for me to comprehend).

I was riding in a first gen Tesla S the other day (Uber, not my own) and had a good discussion with the driver. The latest model has had a 30%+ improvement since the orignal giving a range of appx 600km's (Tesla S 100D) on a single charge. The thing is, the batteries have improved somewhat, but they've been much smarter about the design of the vehicles. Just the type of tyre you use can add 100km+ to a single charge cycle. So if the tyres can have that type of impact, think about the impact reduced weight from a smaller form factor, higher capacity from silicon and lower cost to make them more affordable for the average consumer will have.

Are we on the precipice of joining the EV world? Dunno. Simply can't glean enough from this announcement to determine how involved we are with just a confidentiality agreement. Muzz may very well be right in his Samsung assumption, which wouldn't be a bad thing at all, in fact. Quantity for Samsung devices is massive. That said, I'd lean towards the EV side of things, as with TV at the communications helm, he was always seeking for the unsaid message right in front of our face. Why go off on the EV tangent in the announcement if completely unrelated? If I had just signed an NDA with a cell phone company I probably would have made mention of where that market is going in the same announcement as opposed to EV, no?

Anywho, nice to see some positive news. I'll likely jump in with a bit in the morning, as I'm a glutton for punishment hoping to someday be proven right.

All IMHO, GLTA, FWIW, DYOR, blah blah blah....
