DoctorFouad, really, is this your "evidence" for the claim that a Syrah spherical graphite plant, in the US, will produce unacceptable pollution? The Washington Post article talks exclusively of contamination in China, due to graphite particles released into the air, blackening everything in sight.

Does anybody imagine for a moment that such releases of graphite particles would be allowed to occur in the US? The whole article says absolutely nothing about spherical graphite production in Louisiana, or anywhere else in the US, for that matter. The article thus gives zero support for the claim that such a plant, in Louisiana, would have a "huge impact on the environment".


Largely because of its proximity to the Gulf ports, and excellent availability of power and natural gas, Louisiana has become a centre for the US chemical industry, with many hundreds of plants located there. Those plants are properly engineered to routinely handle acids and alkalis safely. Why would a Syrah plant be any different to all of them? The State authorities have many years of experience and expertise in monitoring these plants, and approvals are very well-controlled. In short, they know what they are doing, and what is required to protect the citizens of Louisana.

By all means let's have a discussion about the spherical graphite plant. But please let it be based on the real-world situation, and not on some wild figment of the imagination.
