Interesting to see our Future Fund investing in modern technology but it would seem that they prefer foreign companies than those at home here. Yes thanks for supporting Australian industry and innovation Future Fund.

Desktop Metal in its recent IPO gathered in more than $200m USD to develop its 3D printer – perhaps the FF saw the success of the A3D IPO and thought they should get on some other 3D printing bandwagon - but did they check on their technology?  I am told it is also has fast printing capabilities but with an unusual process where one sweep deposits the powder and then another sweep then deposits a bonding agent and then a powder sweep and so on. And then at the end you have a composite of metal and bonding agent.  This then has to be put through a sintering process to remove the bonding agent - what your end product looks like might well be different to what you thought you were printing.  Probably requires a lot of follow up machining to get what you were after.

Good luck with that one FF.

    Cheers
