To my knowledge all online merchants that sell alcohol have 3 strict conditions:
    1. Must be 18 years of age or over to order
    2. Acknowledge that it is against the law to sell or supply alcohol to, or obtain alcohol on behalf of, a person under the age of 18 years
    3. That you are not obtaining alcohol on behalf of a person under the age of 18 years

The merchant can also cancel you order/refuse delivery at any time if you are unable to produce identification.

From what I can gather in the AFR article, based off a report from Ownership Matters details how a 16-year old child of a staff member set up an account to buy alcohol using a prepaid anonymous sim card and VISA card.

It references “set up an account to buy more than $300 of alcohol without having to verify an age” is totally incorrect.

VISA card date of birth given was January 2 2000, the merchant would have asked for a DOB and anyone who has going through the AfterPay set up process would know it ask for a DOB. Further to that there’s two tick boxes that 2.4 of the T&Cs state you have to be at least 18.

Assuming the transaction went through then with false information provided the “field report” researcher may have breached the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998. Ownership Matters?
