Cheers Mal. Some great points there.
I like this point:
“there is ample evidence that often market outperformance is achieved by letting your winners run and cutting your losers early.”
Since the first share I bought, Inset some rules I stick to now before I buy a stock:
- I look for 52 week highs to find stocks I might otherwise not know about
- Basic chart technicals like SMA being below the SP, accumulation/distribution levels, higher lows and higher high trends.
- more experienced friends understand the business fundamentals better so always lean on them for that
- macro trends and general economical structure. Use Port Phillip CT&F for that, which dare I say it, “timing the market” is controversial at the very least ( my friends s$&@ all over me on that one) lol.
And yes, definitely setting stop loss exit strategies for speccys and sticking to them.
For me at this stage, XRO and others (I won’t cross thread) are definitely IMHO a long term hold regardless until I need liquidity or the MACRO trend is down which CT&F is helping a lot with.
Cheers.
