I have only posted 2 messages here because I just joined the forum. I also adhere to constructive criticism and treat the forum as a place of information, not as a forum to vent my personal grudge against anyone. No, I am not in QBE nor am I a paid communications spinner. However, I have 30 plus years in insurance with a degree in business and I know the insurance industry well enough and QBE itself. QBE has recently invested huge dollars into technology (Insuretech), taken proactive steps to climate change, etc and zero dollars were allocated for these areas in previous years. Pat turned Oz results into positive position since he joined as ANZO CFO in 2015/16 and then got promoted to Group CFO and in 2018 to Group CEO. These results don't just translate overnight, it takes time for him to understand the business and problematic areas. He has only been Group CFO last year and has not had a chance to warm up his seat as Group CEO, so let's not be hasty and judge them harshly. NCOR was more than 100 per cent in ANZO prior to 2017 and was deteriorating rapidly too, this was reduced to the 90's in 2017 and still improving. In NZ, they had no actuaries prior to 2017, u/w was based on gut feel and chasing premium dollars with no long term sustainability during Colin Fagen's era. In 2017/18 4 actuaries were employed - risks/rewards based on actuarial 101 - Brilliant Basics and long term sustainable yields. No doubt, when a company's strategy changes, there will be some casualties and disgruntled ex-employees. You keep harping that Pat, Inder and the muppets have little or no u/w experience (which is not vital in those positions, CEOs and CFOs of many successful insurers have no direct u/w experience) but that does not mean they do not know the insurance business well, finance 101 (both of them have more than one degree i.e. finance and master degrees) and vast insurance experience overseas and in Australia. If you have worked globally in insurance particularly in Europe, USA and Asia before, you will realise that risks there are a lot more complex than in Australia and NZ, so I still believe that QBE headhunts and pay them double $ (am sure this is not really true and is mere speculation) for a good reason i.e to turn the ship around. Let's wait and see in 2-3 years and reserve our judgement for now.
