What is interesting in this article is it talks of Birmingham being the second pick for the Commonwealth Games because Durban could not afford the associated costs.
I think it highlights a rethink of the Commonwealth event all together as a games event.
I would much prefer a Commonwealth games/trade fair/travel expo/ food and entertainment festival/exhibition featuring most if not all nations as well as conference get togethers/forum events etc...
That way attendees and viewers have more choice to pick and choose what they want to see from different platforms
