Pretty sure the Senex permits in question carry significant drilling commitments. For Beach, exiting means they do not 'waste' money pursuing a resource that dozens of wells have shown is sub-commercial (or marginal at best). For Senex, they are now free to pursue other farm-in venturers that may be more inclined to have a go at a volumetrically huge resource that has failed to produce at commercially sustainable flow rates.
The oil may be getting hard to find, but its a bonanza when you do.
