Thinking about scarcity of silver for investment - the charts that Skol posted provide a clue. I averaged the industrial consumption figures for 2007-2016. That gave me 604.3 mOz per year. Though not fully comparable, the earlier production chart stated 2000-2017 yielding 722 mOz per year. Netting out these two numbers provides 117.7 mOz of silver available for investment per year. This ignores recycling and jewelery counted as consumption, but gives an order of magnitude of investment scarcity. To provide context, I looked at world population. The World Bank says that global population was 6.931 billion in 2010 (rising to near 7.5b in 2016). Dividing ounces by population yields nearly 0.017oz per year per head of population. There's not a lot of new investment silver bullion available, full stop.
Skol may come back with speculation about exponentially rising production - that'd be curious.
