A bit off your topic, but I wanted Linux on a Win10 computer.
I partitioned my hard drive, then did a complete install of Linux Mint 18.3.
I now have the choice of booting up via windows when I want, or Linux when I want.
The above, as you point out may be suitable for developers, but for the unfamiliar user like myself I found a separate installation preferable, with the added benefit it doesn't "Phone Home''
That way I am completely free of the dreaded Microsoft when I want to be.
