Regardless of what happens to Tesla (and I do suspect it will run into cash flow issues and file for Chapter 11), I think Vanadium will run its own courses, and you only need to look at the periodic table for that.
Lithium is ideally suited to anything that moves (such as mobile phones, laptop batteries and vehicles) where recharging is readily available and you aren't too worried about battery life (says he, typing away on a five year old HP Laptop, onto its third battery). Weight and power are the critical factors. Who cares if it costs me another $60 for a new battery every 2 years. Lithium is the lightest metal (atomic number 3) so it's inherently light and ideal for mobile or moving devices.
Vanadium has an atomic number of 23, with the ability to gain or lose 4 electrons. It's heavier but the battery life of the Vanadium redox batteries is far superior. It's ideal for coupling with renewable energy sources such as wind or solar.
