If you can understand the difference between the performance of a single stock over a short period and the long term trend of the index it is part of, it shouldn't be too difficult for you to understand the difference between the weather in a particular location over a short time and the long term trend in global climate.

Maybe I could phrase it better yet...

Sattelite dataset from UAH has the global temperature anomaly for February at just 0.2 C.

And today's global sea surface temperture anomaly is a balmy 0.09 C.
