I have a lot of mates on the coast and many of them went and those that have kids took them. They LOVED it!!!
I feel for these athlete with our attitude in that a lot of their opposition is inferior to most on the world stage. These are our BEST, usually out top 2 or 3 in their chosen sport. They get zero recognition, zero profile on the whole and a few of them might get 15 min of fame when the Olympus roll around every 4 years.
I love the Commonwealth games because it is that one time in four years where I get to watch sports I never usually watch. I get to see Aissies fulfilling dreams who have worked for years usually sacrificing pay to dedicate themselves daily to a sport where they will earn nothing and it will cost them plenty .
Of course the olympics is great and far superior in competition. But my feeling is that if I can sit down watch Our football codes with the players who might have teams with players who might be the 100th best NRL or AFL players in Aus or the A League teams who would get trounced by just mediocre club sides in many world comps, then I am only too happy and LOVE seeing what the best of Australia can produce in a variety of sports and some are world ranked.
The cycling, swimming , athletics are always favs. But I just loved a day like today when I watched a lot of the marathon, then some rugby 7’s and then a thriller in the netball all on the one day . It’s also the only time I will ever watch lawn bowls and to be honest, I think it is quite entertaining,
I don’t watch every bit, but I love just switching over and checking out the menu of sports and our BEST competing in their chosen sport. Maybe I am in the minority but considering we get the Olympics/com games on 2 year rotations, I look forward to it every time.
