So not only does ausheds dismiss EVERY resource not on Mt Weld (and even some that are , e.g. Duncan), but he's going to dismiss undersea deposits, too? Why am I not surprised?
Is this discovery relevant to Lynas?
Certainly from the standpoint of risk analysis it is. After all, Lynas has no ROW competition at this stage. It would be material if they did.
On the other hand, how well does it serve Lynas being the sole ROW source?
It could be something of a wash, but I suspect it's worse that that.
Because of (1) the paucity of mining operations in the REE space and (2) the fact that no one wants to depend on the Chinese anymore (How can you after their politically-motivated export restrictions?), there remains significant unwillingness to utilize and commit to NdFeB-based traction motors for EV applications. This is the number one reason the Germans have avoided them, imo. It's one thing if you can't power-wind your windows, it's another altogether if your wheels fall off.
So while Lynas may well benefit by being peerless, the biggest growth industry is likely stunted because they are. Lynas is not like CBMM with their near-infinite Nb deposit (still 100 years LOM, IIRC). I'm impatient to see the projected LOM in the upcoming resource update.
Bottom Line here: Any large REE deposit discovery outside of China is significant as well as both relevant and potentially positive to Lynas by supporting REE-enabled product design and development and hence demand.
So why is ausheds dismissing it? There's the simple answer: That what he always does when challenged. And there's the other reason, which seems best to paraphrase as: "It's just like fairy coal dust." LOL.
Who knows what his problem is with Japan's discovery?
