Shane Warne was banned for a year for taking his mum’s diet pill off field. He didn’t cheat in a match. Bancroft got caught cheating in a match under team orders from his Captain, exposing the whole team as cheats. At the nauseatingly embarrassing press conference, Bancroft seemed more concerned with the fact his cheating was so hack handed it failed to achieve it’s objective of causing the ball to reverse swing, as if this might somehow excuse his blatant cheating. Bancroft should not get a lighter punishment than Warnie. Australia won’t miss him that much, he’s a pretty ordinary player.
That alone won’t make the point that a cheating team culture is unacceptable. Steve Smith must be sacked by Cricket Australia whatever punishments gets handed down by the match referee. You can’t have systemic cheating being co-ordinated by an international cricket captain if the game is to have any future. Bancroft and Smith are hardly the first cheats in cricket who’ve tampered with the ball, but they are most certainly the stupidest for imagining they could get away with it with a big chunk of bright yellow tape with 30 cameras pointed at them - total muppets who don’t deserve any leniency.

How embarrassing for a great cricketing country like Australia to get caught cheating, we will get sledged about this for years, sack the both of them..
