Don't need to look too far, I am pretty tech savvy and my home is fairly connected with virtually everything is control with Alexa and Google home and a smartphone and all this stuff are in the cloud.
I can see everything on my properties and control everything from anywhere
I can sit in the Maldives and flick the light on at my place in the night for a half hour and turn it off to simulate someone is home, or open my garage or front door to let relatives in
Someone enters my properties and it triggers an alert and starts video recording and I can replay this recording again any time over cloud from anywhere, someone presses a button on my front doorbell
it triggers an alert and again starts recording and If I wish I can start a live feed the video and have a conversation from the Maldives to whoever at the door
I can turn on the aircon thirty minutes before I get home so the home is cool on a hot summer day as I walk in.
The stuff you can control from my iPhone is limited by your imagination, you can virtually hooked up everything with a bit of effort but I am an early odopter it will get easier in a few years.
The trend toward AI, cloud home automation is moving at a rapid pace
My latest addition is adding AI voice control to my car so as I approach the street can voice control it to open my door as I drive up and drive straight in
