    Lithium, like bromine and iodine by itself are unstable - they undergo a chemical reaction to become stable in the air or in solution, by bonding with another chemical - usually (but not always) with another chemical on the opposite side of the periodic table.

    That is why we have Lithium salt - where Lithium ions bond with Cl ions, to become Lithium salt.
