well the government tried to boost the construction industry after the mining boom and now that it has created a bubble, they are trying to slowly remove some steam from it...
the banks were making record profits from mortgages... rates were low, people were lining up to borrow. Foreign investment capital was flowing into the housing market as it was the government intent to allow it to boost jobs. The housing market boomed.
And if tomorrow a crash happens, it wouldn't be the borrowers that initiated the crash... the liability will reside to the people of power, institutions or authorities that knew what they were doing...
