I actually cant tell if people are just trying to confuse others with the BNP Paribas talk, or genuinely think that the bank itself is buying stock because they are about to strike some deal.
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/n/nominee.asp does a good job of explaining it simply. Or the ASX have more technical information as part their listing and settlement rules.
